The Floralatti

21 Feb

I’m always pretty mad for florals but since my friend Brumby shared this picture of Designer’s Guild Amrapali wallpaper it’s all I can think about.

At the moment the wallpaper is way out of my budget, but until then I have a plan to embrace wild florals in fashion. Then when people come round to my house I’ll either press myself against the wall (odd) or just leave my clothes lying around the house (achievable).

Modern threads

18 Feb

I’m constantly in awe of the work of sisterly duo Maricor/Maricar. Maricor/Maricar are graphic designers who take their hand-drawn type to the next level, using needle and thread to create it. Their embroidered pieces are graphic and modern, a far cry from a Victorian Sampler. As well as design work, they also offer a custom embroidered initial via their etsy shop.

Sweet dreams

15 Feb

Lately I’ve been having sweet dreams of a ridiculously over-the-top floral bed. Garish, clashing, kitsch and ultra femme.

Kate & Florence

Kate Spade & Florence Broadhurst.

It’s quite surprising that it has taken this long for a major brand to take on Florence Broadhurst but Kate Spade’s adoption of the famous prints seems a fitting partnership of unstoppable energy. The Late Australian textile designer led a life more colourful than even her brightest patterns, and Florence Broadhurst: Her secret & extraordinary lives by Helen McNeill is a must read, even for those who have little interest in textiles. She remains an enigma and her designs remain timeless.

Edgy

Moo has just brought out their new luxe cards, 600gsm stock with a river of coloured paper running right through the card. They’re not cheap, but they are gorgeous and an easy way to add an edge (sorry) to your existing design. With Moo, the colour options are limited to blue, red, black and white. For a truly custom result find yourself a letterpress studio that offers edge painting such as Dingbat Studio.
